Dr Jonathan Bell
Environmental Researcher | Chartered Planner | Irish International Hockey Player | Irish Olympian
Perhaps most recognisable as an Olympic and Irish hockey player, Dr Jonathan Bell is a multi-faceted professional.
He may have led the Irish Men’s Hockey Team to the Rio De Janeiro Olympics in 2016 for the first time since 1908, but he’s also a Chartered Town Planner by trade (and a member of the Royal Town Planning Institute) as well as a passionate Environmental Researcher.
He has a particular interest in how the governance of natural resources impacts on human well-being and future prosperity, and works with Northern Ireland Environment Link to influence regional, UK and EU policies that impact upon the natural and built environment of Northern Ireland.
Drawing similarities between the sporting and business worlds, he recognises the importance of setting goals, particularly overarching, long term goals, which help to focus and align your everyday actions and decisions. “Without a bigger picture it can be hard to motivate yourself. By making individual improvements, you really contribute to an overall collective improvement.”
